inspiration and rough ideas for my digipak
Front cover:
Font for the artists name- Road Crew
as this is a bold and fn font, we also used this in our music video. this font is very bold and eye-catching wich is good as people will remember the name of the artist. this font is similar to the one that Eliza Doolittle uses, as they both give off an urban feel to them.
Font for the album name- moonlight:
this is one of the fonts i may uses for the name of the artist as i feel it will look good next to the other font. the font, however does contrast, i will be doing this to show two different sides to the artist as she has a ranges as a Pop, Hip-hp and R&B artist.
Picture: medium close up of KAYE's face, i go the inspiration from Lana Del Rey's album cover for 'Born to Die': as i feel like this is a strong image.
Costume: the fedora hat that she wore in the video and hoops, as well as a a basic teeshirt. this will link it to the video as in most of our shots she is wearing these items.
Background colour:

i will be using balloons as the image that i have on the inside of the album

this is another font i might use as i feel it will be complimentary of the font i will use for the artists name as it is thinner but it still has an urban vibe to it.

Editing (4.12.14)
today was a very stressful editing session i must say. this is purely down to the fact that tomorrow his the deadline for our music video! eek! It has been a long time coming, however we are still yet to sign off the sheet with the big and bold letters 'FINISHED'! Today's session was useful in the sense that Louisa was able to give us some feedback and advice before we finalised and submitted our final music video. I believe the feedback we received was highly useful as it clarified particular theories that we would be using if we made those changes. For example, we decided to use cutaways in the chorus after the first verse and then go on to using them during the second verse. The response form Louisa was that we should instead use them in the chorus after the second verse as it will then act as a motif, giving the audience some sense of familiarity. At first I was against doing this as I wanted the cutaways to come as a surprise and not have the audience expert these changes. However, after applying these suggested changes it created a structure that was clear and flowed well. It also meant that we were now following Goodwin's theory of repetition.
While watching our music video, Louisa noticed that there was a shot in which a member of the public was walking past while I was performing, which was a distraction from the main focus- the video. We swiftly changed the shot, which was easy since we partly used the method of laying a few base tracks down.
Lastly, as we started most of the verses with a medium shot giving the audience a clearer shot of the artist, it would be unusual to start with a long shot which we initially did, at the beginning of the last verse. Louisa said it would be better to begin with a close up in which I couldn't agree anymore. After looking at the applied changes it made a smoother transition from the previous verse.
After the lesson had finished I was able to go into room 323 to being applying the changes that were yet to be done. Furthermore I began tidying up the last verse which proved very difficult as the majority of the base tracks were filmed in slow motion.

Day 5 of Editing (1.12.14) + Feedback response
Today did we not only continue with editing, we had another opportunity to get some feedback from the class on how our music video is looking so far. We began from the beginning of our music video as we thought by chronologically editing the sequence would take the pressure of meeting the deadline slightly off our shoulders.
During to the lead up of our rough cut I believe we did not spend a good amount of time deciding on the right transition between one shot and the next in our music video. However, today we took the time to discuss the appropriate transition for the next shot. Furthermore, in our rough cut and our initial idea the shots varied between those owe filmed in Portobello and Camden Market, which we now decided to change and instead use all the Portobello shots in the first verse and the Camden Market shots in the second. This made our music video clearer in terms of our small narrative of a journey as once we left the first location (Portobello) we planned on not going back to it.
Once we applied these changes to the first verse, it was time to present it to the rest of the class to get an understanding of how they thought our changes worked. Overall I thought the feedback was great as the shot we now decided to use- and replace the old ones- portrayed the the happy and candid feeling which the class felt was presented well. Members of the class felt the performance I gave as a performer was convincing as the hand gestures and facial expressions went with the mood of the song- which was upbeat and happy.
I felt that the class got the happy vibe our group was going for as some of them felt a sense of happiness after watching what we had. Furthermore, I believe the location of the colourful houses and the bright clothing I was wearing added to the happiness my classmates felt as they gave off a warm and cosy feeling.
Receiving the feedback demonstrated that the hard work I have contributed is being appreciated and recognised. I will not use the free time I have outside of lesson to now continue editing the second verse of our music video and so on to the next, to a standard done of the first.

have we stuck to our initial ideas? what have we changed?
yes, i do think we stuck to the original plan that we had at the beginning, which was basically a day in the life of the artist, i just think that when we were presenting in our pitch we didn't really do a good job of explaining clearly what our vision for the video was which is where all the confusion came when we were getting the feedback of our pitch back.
the only thing we really changed was the fact that we were going to film in a park which we didn't add in our pitch, but we thought it would be good to end the video in a different and more green area instead of near buildings, like the rest of the video.
so far we have finished filming the only thing we need to do is finish editing the video.
what we did in lesson last Monday? 17.11.14
lat monday's lesson we continued the editing process and we also produced our rough copy of the video and showed it to the class (although we didn't actually finish the whole video, we just showed half of ours). we got some good and bad feedback on what we should keep and change. we uploaded our rough cut and feedback to the blog. overall it was a productive lesson!

response to feedback
i think that our feedback for our rough cut was okay, but because we started over last lesson we didn't actually get a chance to put down all the base tracks that we had shot, so it looked like we only shot at one location. which we explained.
another thing that we brought up was if people thought we cut to different shots often, but they said that it suited the beat of the song.
they also liked that we changed the pace of the editing when the beat of the song changed.
someone said that they liked the jump cut at the beginning of the song.
we got some point on what we could do better also, in one of our shots we left the sound on so you can still hear the background noise as we forgot to mute that base track.
we also didn't have as many close ups as people wanted in the video but we have now went back and put more of our close ups in.
we also needed to cut earlier in one of our shots as karen is singing even though there was no music to sing to as she was starting to say something that we cut off. so we have to now go back and cut earlier.
targets:
targets:
- to get up all our base tracks
- to mute the un muted base track
- to slow down our fast base tracks

skills audit
i would defiantly say that my skills have progressed since my AS year as i have definitely been more hands on in terms of editing which i was really confused about last year.
2. music
ive learnt how to convert the music that we use, which are Mp3 files, into AIFF files so that we can put them into final cut pro.
3. blog
I've definitely been putting more effort in not sticking to just one media platform and I've tried to have a new one in quite a lot of my blogs, which i wasn't doing a lot of last year
4. camera & equipment
this year I've learn to put the camera on the fig rig as my group last year never needed to use the fig rig as we used a tripod.
5. differences between music videos and movies (A2 &AS)
- final cut pro

- music videos are mainly filmed on fig rigs and movies are filmed on tripods most of the time
- the editing processes are different
- the different theories that apply to music videos ( for example Carol Vernallis ) do not apply to movies

Extra editing (21.11.14)
*UPDATE* Unfortunately the video showing the work I completed today did not save. I am annoyed due to the fact I spent the majority of the day editing more to the video than we previously had. I am now using this as an opportunity to push myself to collaborate well enough with my group to get as far as I did today by the next lesson!

RESEARCH: what would a Jessie J fan expect from our music video?
Amina just turned 14, she has been a fan of Jessie J for a while now.
things she likes:
- hanging out with her friends
- listening to music
- reading magazines
- she thinks that Jessie J's music is very up beat mostly and thinks that most of her songs have a positive message to them , and thats what makes her really love jessie j's music.

what we did this lesson 17.11.14 (DRAFT)

we also tried to merge two clips together so that the density on the clip where the sky is more grey would go down changing the colour to blue, however this changed the whole clip blue and it just ended up not working as it didn't flow well so we just decided to get rid of the pan down and just cut to another shot instead :(

we have made a good start on the editing however this lesson definitely was difficult due to the music as it did take us a long time to figure out what we were going to do. but we are hopefully going to come in on friday and carry on with editing and hopefully get all of our base tracks down and have so that we can get on with choosing what shots we want and at what time we want them. :)

FIRST DAY FILMING-
Unfortunately I was unable to attend that lesson but I was kept up to date with the progress.
Osob and Karen filmed during 3 hour media lesson therefore they didn't have much time on our hands to visit the locations that they needed so Osob and Karen decided that they had to go to Camden Market (the closest location to our college) and film some cut away shots so that we have a variety of different footage and we weren't left editing with not enough footage and having to re-use some of our previous shots. the reason that we didn't do any base tracks yesterday was because Karen didn't the costume that she planned to wear in the base tracks at Camden Market.
They went around and got quite a few shots and after seeing them I was very happy with, them and that we thought would suit our music video. however I do acknowledge it must have been very hard to film as I was absence and if one of our group members was missing it makes it harder for us to make decisions such as where we wanted to film for the next time we visited instead of wasting time walking around. however because Osob and Karen were there they were able to make decisions on where Karen was comfortable filming as she is the performer which meant that we have to consider the fact that she may not be comfortable filming in more crowded spaces.
The mise-en-scene shots that we have were not that difficult to find because of the bright colours around the market which we said we wanted in our pitch. also Camden Market is a very popular place in London that a lot of people will recognize when watching our video so that they can relate to our artist Kaye.
The next time we film we want to get a couple of base tracks done in portobello so that we have something to work with! and also to film on a day were we have much more time so we are going to use the 5 day weekend that we have to film some more shots and hopefully get everything we need by Monday the 11th
day 3 filming:
our third day of filming went quite well, we re visited portobello road and also filmed base tracks in Camden Market . we worked efficiently although the weather was definitely a set back as it was quite gloomy however i think we made it work quite well.
we filmed next to the colourful houses which also works with mise-en-scene as the colours in the background are very similar to Karens costume( when she is wearing a kimono). we had a mother set back which was when my phone died as it was what we were using to play our music out loud so that the mic could pick it up and Karen could hear it so she could sing in time making our editing easier. we over came this obstacle when Karen though of the idea to record the music in footage that we had already on her iPod, which worked really well.
we got a variety of different base tracks at different angles, different shots and we didn't forget to do a CLOSE UP!!! wohoo! this was something that our group definitely didn't forget because it was one of the main issues with our Delilah music video.
me and Akbar were helping each other film and direct Karen ,whist Karen was the performer. i think that this was our best day of filming as after this all we need to do is film the final base tracks at Clissold park which will at most take about an hour id we work as efficiently as we did yesterday !one thing that we didn't really think about was filming in quite a large public area which was Camden as Karen found it very awkward (i don't blame her!) so we waited for a bit when it was less packed and then we filmed , because of this we cut our trip to Camden short because no matter where we went there were a lot of people so we decided to just do 3 base tracks in Camden . it was also very cold and Karen's costume choice meant that she would have to be freezing which was also a little bit of a set back as Karen was finding it hard to be happy and cherry whilst she was uncomfortable ( which i also don't blame her for!)
her are some of the pictures i took whilst filming: :)
i will put the pictures up on animoto but i can't remember my password!

RESEARCH: analysis of 3 music videos that have influenced me
also the way in which the artist in this video carries herself was definitely inspired me as i am director so i wanted our our artists Kaye to carry herself in a similar way.
the pace in which the shots change is also something that inspired me because even though it is a fast song the editing isn't that fast which lets the audience focus on the visuals and how it amplifies the lyrics in the song.
the costume choice in this song was useful to use for ideas for our video as, both theses songs have a quite 'feel good' so we though wearing bright colors, like the artist in this video does, will make our video seem more 'summery' as summer is known to be the season that makes people feel good.

blogging health check
part of Rebecca's comment:)
the blog health check showed me that even though I have been doing SOME good blog post I definitely need to raise my game with producing blogs regularly as I have not blogged for quite a while now(which is really bad). I also have blogs that I have missed that are very important such as the blog post on the 3 music videos that have influenced our song choice, skills audit and Jessie J's digipack for her song Abracadabra.
however my teacher did say that my use of technology is very good and the blogs that I do have up are quite good. which means that if I was constant in blogging my blog would actually be good!
the main thing I definitely need to change is that gaps in work that I have and need to be posting REGULARLY instead of every so often.
my group and I need to change our production schedule to show that we didn't actually film on the half term as we were not free on the same days so we decided to film on the week straight after the half term.
I also need to post the posts on the feedback on our pitch which I am now working on and also my own reaction to the pitch and generally how I feel I'm doing.
reflection of filming day 1:
my reflection:

travelling to destination day 2 of filming:
we planned how to get were we were going which, was portobello road on the first day, by looking on the tfl website to see how we can get there.
we got on the 476: which took us to Euston station - we got this bus from a stop near angel station. this route wasn't so long as we were already near the stop we were meant to get off as it is really close to college.

and then we got on the 18: which would take us to where we would need to get our other bus - we got this bus from Euston station.this rote was the longer one and what made it worse is that we got stuck in traffic which made it even longer to sit through.
the route was quite long and tiring , which was bad as it meant that we didn't have the energy to film a lot, which was actually ended up happening , so we went home earlier than we wanted to, also the weather had a big role to play in this decision also as it was getting dark and gloomy which wasn't the suitable weather for our music video .

i will be using:
EMAZE to present Q1.
2. How effective is the combination of your main product ancillary texts?
get feed back from my target audience and film their responses
3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
For this question i will do a spider diagram for 3 people and what i learnt from their feedback
and how it helped me to understand what i did wrong/right
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?
Again for this question also i think i might use screen shots of all the different types of media technologies that i used over the planning, research and evaluation period.i will demonstrate how I used these media platforms through a video with a voice over describing why i used each of these platforms at each particular stage.
other media platforms i can use for the questions:

Planning/Pitch: Revisions to pitch and final decisions-
From the feedback we received we thought it would be relevant if we lowered our target audience as we believed and so did the rest of the class thought it was very high as the song appealed to a lower age. Also some of the class asked if we would be making the performer dance. As a group we discussed we wouldn't make Karen dance but it would have some dance elements.
